LaBrecque Sensei began martial arts training in 1967, studying Karate and Judo under various instructors, achieving the rank of Shodan in March of 1979. In April of 1979 he enlisted in the U.S.A.F. as a security police officer. After completing tech school and combat training in Texas, he was stationed at Davis Monthan A.F.B. in Tuscon, Arizona.
In 1980, LaBrecque Sensei began training with, and continues to train with, Johnny Linebarger Shihan in the styles of Shuri-Ryu, Ju-Jitsu Kobudo, Judo and Tae Kwon Do. Linebarger was Assistant Chief Instructor of Grand Master Robert Trias, father of Karate in America.
In 1990 LaBrecque began training with Michael Dunphy Shihan of Canton, Ohio. Dr. Dunphy, an 8th degree black belt and menkyo-licensed sogobudo instructor, introduced LaBrecque to Sogobudo. Both men are members of the International Sogobudo Federation, which is under the direction of John Viol Shihan, Menkyo Kaiden Sogobudo.
Mr. LaBrecque is one of only a handful of classically trained martial instructors in the United States with expertise in Sogobujutsu (Comprehensive Warrior/Martial Sciences). He is also the only licensed
instructor of Sogobudo in New England.
